HDC Waiau Watermain Project
EDR was contracted to install a new watermain from the Waiau Township Water Treatment Plant to the Tekoa Street reticulation. This includes supporting infrastructure and a flow meter, all delivered to Council standards. The works required close coordination with the Council water operator and local landowners to maintain access and minimise disruption.
Scope of works
The project involved trenching and installation of a 470m DN180 main, track upgrades, irrigation works, testing and commissioning and reinstatement, including:

Preliminary & General - Site establishment and disestablishment, communication with the landowner and Council operator, site access coordination

Track Upgrades - Upgrade farm track as per drawings, including installation of three 300mm culverts to transfer water from the south swale to the north swale

Watermain Installation (DN180 PE100 PN12.5, 470m) - Trench and lay the DN180 PE pipe supplied by Council. Connect into the DN150 valve at Tekoa Street and the DN125 pipe at the WTP boundary. Install a fire hydrant for flushing. Provide bedding, concrete cut-offs on grades greater than 20% and concrete cover through the roadside drain. Reinstate using AP20/AP65/AP40, topsoil and grass seed as specified.

Irrigation Pipe Installation (DN40 PE80B PN12.5, 150m) - Trench and install DN40 irrigation pipe with fittings and connections as specified

Testing & Commissioning - Flush, chlorinate and pressure test (rebound test per AS/NZS 2566.2) prior to final connections, completed in coordination with the Council waterman
Project Outcome
EDR successfully delivered the 470m watermain and associated works, improving water supply reliability and operational resilience for Waiau township while meeting Council standards and minimising local disruption.
